Biography:

Roberto Montenegro was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, studying there with the composer Guido Santórsola.Early in Mr. Montenegro´s musical career,the renowned conductor Igor Markevitch advised him to go to Germany,where he worked at the Hamburg Musikhochschule with Aldo Ceccato and at the Munich Philharmonic with Sergiu Celibidache.At the same time,Mr. Montenegro studied Music Phenomenology at the Guttemberg University in Mainz.

In 1985,Roberto Montenegro was offered the post of Assistant Conductor at the Music Academy of the West in the United States,as well so to the Santa Barbara Festival Orchestra in California.
In 1990 he was appointed as Artistic and Musical Director of the S.O.D.R.E.(Uruguay´s National Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra).

Mr. Montenegro has since appeared with orchestras on Europe,North,Central and South America as well as with the Brno State Czech Philharmonic,the Pomeriggi Musicali,the Pasdeloup Orchestra,Israel´s Shira International Orchestra,the Spanish National Orchestra,the Canadian Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony,the West Coast Symphony,the Prague Chamber Orchestra,the Jerusalem Symphony,the Puerto Rico Orchestra,the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra among others, performing at the Salle Pleyel in Paris,the Spain National Auditorium in Madrid,the Milan´s Verdi Hall,the Rudolfinum in Prague,the Palau de la Música in Valencia,the Centre in the Square in Canada,Centro para las Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico,etc.

He has taught conducting masterclasses at the European Community Music School in Saluzzo (Italy),Santiago de Compostela (Spain),Bergamo (Italy) and the Litoral University (Argentina).

He has performed with artists such as Jerome Lowenthal,Bruno Leonardo Gelber,Andrea Griminelli,Jean Louis Steuerman,France Clidat,Kyoko Saito,Louise Russell,Marco Rizzi,Michal Kancka,Alex Slobodianik,Dimitri Berlinsky Paul Plishka,Gino Quilico,Miroslav Kokoska,Noam Buchman,etc.Alternating with Aldo Ceccato and Zubin Mehta,he conducted the Israel Shira´s International Symphony Orchestra in the 1996-97 Jerusalen Classical Winter Festival.

Recently recorded ”The Italian Experience” with the Prague Chamber Orchestra,including in the CD works by Rossini,Respighi and Mendelssohn.

Maestro Montenegro has been paid two notable tributes in 1993:the American Biographical Institute ,U.S.A.,proclaimed him “Man of the Decade” and “Man of the Year”.In 1995 the Royal Order of the Bohemian Crown awarded him the title of Baron.
